Surgery on Compact Manifolds (Mathematical Surveys & Monographs) 2nd Edition

Offers a framework for relating the homotopy theory of manifolds to the algebraic theory of quadratic forms, a surgery obstruction theory for manifolds with arbitrary fundamental group, and an extension of the theory from the differentiable and piecewise linear categories to the topological category. Additions to the text, new notes, and new chapters summarize developments in the field since the 1970 first edition. A rough road even for readers with a good founding in surgery theory.
